Lodging at a Cabin, Short Diary Entry #1

(I typed these up on my tablet during vacation, so each post is a different day!)

July 18, 2014.

The air is so fresh. The windows can be left open at night to the sound of silence. We may not have hiked far, but lodging at this cabin has been relaxing.

If you stay absolutely silent, you can only hear a few things. Sometimes it's the occasional car or plane passing by, but otherwise there's nothing more than the ambient sounds of birds chirping or insects buzzing. Speaking of which, these are the kinds of insects you'd be happy to see and hear when outdoors: bees, crickets and butterflies. Sure, the annoying fly or gnat may hover by, but one pest not found up in this area is the mosquito, for which I am grateful.

It's actually supposed to be hot. Really hot. Think sweating while staying still. However, the combination of breeze and shade has made the atmosphere quite cool. I suspect the higher altitude also helps with this, but sometimes not knowing is all that's needed.

As for the scenery, it's green. All green. There are trees everywhere, as far as can be seen. They're trees of different sizes and shapes, but they all blend in to create a sea of comfort. This, like I said, makes the air fresh. Real fresh.

There aren't too many people here. It's not quite isolated, but we're spread out enough that I've hardly seen anyone, besides from my family. There's a family lodged at the cabin across from us, and there are some workers down by the intersection that leads to our place. Otherwise, there are more animals than people; as it should be.

We've used the grill. We cooked hot dogs and had a few steaks. These hot dogs were huge, ruler sized. I prepped the chili, and with a bit of Mexican cheese, the juiciest chili dogs were ready. We ate outdoors, of course. Right under the shade. It wasn't good, it was great. I'm supposed to cook some burgers later, but I really shouldn't keep talking about food. I don't want to get hungry. Well, not yet!

Our dogs have been enjoying themselves, too. The older dog's a terrier and beagle mix. He's quite amiable, and he loves to stick his nose in places it shouldn't be. He also loves to meander. Maybe he considers it exploring, but I think he's just looking for something to catch with his teeth.

The younger dog's more poodle like, and she's not too accustomed to the outdoors. The only thing she really wants is a person. Well, specifically, my mom. She's getting accustomed to the outdoors, but she's more used to comfy sofas and laps to rest on.

I'd like to continue, but it's almost 3, and I can feel the sun's tender rays ushering my eyes to shut. I think I'll comply.

Sharing Thoughts

I have thoughts. Lots of 'em. I know, I know, that's not a unique thing to say. However, I'm creating a blog for two reasons.

  1. I like typing and writing words. For as long as I can remember, expressing through words has always felt like my best creative outlet. I didn't pursue a career in the field of language (for either creative or serious writing), so this will be my way of fulfilling that desire to verbalize my thoughts. Hopefully in an interesting way.
  2. I don't want to boggle down my tumblr. I consider tumblr blog lite. It serves a similar purpose to a blog, but the focus is on images and short snippets of humor/wisdom/sarcasm/etc. If blogger was verbal, tumblr would be visual. True, verbal implies being spoken, but imagine this as the mind speaking in a way you can see. How's that for mixing up the senses?
Anyway, I'll keep the first blog brief. I'm new to the concept of blogging, but I've already dabbled in video editing, tumbling and even tweeting like a bird- to a lesser extent. Time to see if I can keep this up.
